The Journey

“We’re in a constant state of transition and it fascinates me,

how our identity transforms with each action and decision we make.

Art is for me one of the most honest mirrors of that infinite journey.”

The Inspiration

An increasingly globalized world with challenges beyond national borders asks for flexible, dynamic and self-responsible concepts of “identity”. As a person, who lived and worked in many different countries, I learned, that identity can grow beyond given qualities, like your parents’ status, nationality, or religion. I see identity as a constant process of re-defining and re-shaping through the actions and decisions we make. Jean-Paul Sartre says in “Existentialism is a humanism”: “There is no reality except in action”. “…he (man) is therefore nothing else than the ensemble of his acts.”

I think the character of “identity” isn’t much different, but it demands our acceptance of being responsible for our identity instead of delegating it to institutions like state, or church.

This approach of a self-responsible identity gains significance in a time of migration and a globalized cultural and social environment. I think it is essential, that art reflects that and stimulates a dialogue.
